Triple-Quantum Two-Dimensional 27Al Magic-Angle Spinning Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopic Study of Aluminosilicate and Aluminate Crystals and Glasses

چکیده
A new two-dimensional magic-angle spinning NMR experiment1,2 using multiple-quantum coherences of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei was used to study 27Al sites in crystalline samples of leucite (KAlSi2O6), anorthite (CaAl2Si2O8), and kyanite (Al2SiO5), as well as CaAl2Si2O8 glass and a magnesium aluminoborate glass. In the crystals, multiple sites are partially resolved and new results for isotropic chemical shifts and quadrupolar parameters are derived, using data collected at a single magnetic field. Data for both leucite and anorthite are consistent with previous results that correlate chemical shifts with mean intertetrahedral bond angle. Signal can be obtained from sites with quadrupolar coupling constants as large as 9 MHz, but intensities are reduced. In the aluminoborate glass, peaks for sites with different Al coordination numbers are well separated. The lack of such features in CaAl2Si2O8 glass rules out the presence of significant quantities of AlO5 and AlO6 groups.

27Al NMR study of the structure of lanthanum- and yttrium-based aluminosilicate glasses and melts.
We have investigated by (27)Al nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy some compositions in the Ln(2)O(3)-Al(2)O(3)-SiO2 (Ln = Y or La) ternary phase diagram containing more than 60 mol % of SiO2. One- and two-dimensional high-field (17.6 T) high-speed (30 kHz) magic angle spinning experiments have been performed along with simulations of the spectra to quantify the amount of penta-coordinated ...

Several aspects of the Multiple-Quantum Magic-Angle Spinning (MQMAS) technique (L. Frydman and J.S. Harwood, J. Am. Chem. Soc., 117 (1995) 5367) are compared with Dynamic-Angle Spinning (DAS). Examples of MQMAS spectra are shown for I = 3/2 nuclei with CQ up to 3.6 MHz, and for 27Al (I = 5/2) with CQ up to 10 MHz. The MQMAS linewidth is largely independent of the magnitude of the homonuclear di...
متن کاملThe distribution of sodium ions in aluminosilicate glasses: A high-field Na-23 MAS and 3Q MAS NMR study
The local configurations around sodium ions in silicate glasses and melts and their distributions have strong implications for the dynamic and static properties of melts and thus may play important roles in magmatic processes. The quantification of distributions among charge-balancing cations, including Na in aluminosilicate glasses and melts, however, remains a difficult problem that is releva...

2H Magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR), echo 27Al NMR, two-dimensional (2D) echo 1H MAS NMR and 1H, 27Al and 29Si MAS NMR have been applied to study the acid sites of dehydrated zeolites. The quadrupole coupling constants CQCC determined from 2H MAS NMR spectra of Si-OH-Al sites increase with the framework aluminium content of the zeolites from 208 Hz (H-ZSM-5) to 236 kHz ...

Mullite is an aluminosilicate of the composition Al2(Al212xSi222x)O102x with x generally ranging between 0.2 and 0.5. XRD and 29Si and 27Al nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) have been used to investigate the structure of various mullite compositions (x 5 0.26, 0.36, 0.42, and 0.69) as well as sillimanite (x 5 0) and g-Al2O3 (x 5 1). 27Al magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR of the central and satellit...
